The Fool Hath Said In His Heart

Psalms 14:1: The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

The first sentence in the verse speaks about one person, a fool. The second sentence speaks about more than one fool. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. Fools* activities are described in four ways in the passage. They have said in their hearts that There is no God, they are corrupt, they have done abominable works, and none of them do good.

Whenever any of us sin we too can accurately be described as fools. When we are foolish enough to make decisions without consulting God we are saying by our action: There is no God over these decisions. When we do things without consulting God we are saying by our action: There is no God over this action.

Luke 19:14: But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.

The nobleman who went into the far country is a type of the Lord. The biggest fools will not have Him to reign over them. Their destiny is identical to the fools in Psalm 14:1. Believers who do not consult the Lord about their decisions and actions have a lot in common with the biggest fools. We are smaller fools and temporarily fools, but fools nonetheless.
